Let’s Be Frank: How Values Drive Business for a $5B Southeast Advisory Firm

1. Client experience is at the core of the firm — are there any experiences you can share that have demonstrated what makes NBC Securities what it is.

As the founder of an independent private wealth services and legacy planning firm, seeing the children or grandchildren of some my longest standing relationships flourish is one of the most rewarding things I have experienced. I also know this to be true for many of our advisors. Also, a lot of our employees have been at NBCS for 10, 15 and even 20 years and I am always very proud to be associated with every member of our team.

2. What do you believe to be the main keys to advisor success?

Trust is the foundation for any true relationship.

If we build our relationships on trust, then we can better serve our employees, advisors, clearing partner, money managers and clients. This simple truth is easy to state, but takes a lot of hard work, discipline and teamwork to develop. This is how we’ve built a strong business platform with a leading national investment advisor network.

3. What are the advantages of going independent with NBCS?

We strive to have a wonderful, familial culture where anyone can reach our management and ownership group at moment’s notice. Whether you want to choose the employee or independent model, the NBCS team is ready to help. Most of our team has over 20+ years of experience in the BD/RIA industry and can help advisors through most situations. Open architecture allows our advisors to manage their business in the best way they see fit to meet their client’s needs. No growth hurdles, targets, or production minimums for advisors to worry about; just taking care of their clients.

4. How do you see NBC evolving in the future? What are you most excited about?

This industry has greatly evolved over my nearly 60-year career. It will undoubtedly keep evolving well past my time as an advisor.

I believe our firm will continue change to meet the needs of our clients and advisors, but hope our core values built on trust and relationships never change.

5. Any important lessons you have learned?
  • At a young age, I spent summers in Key Largo, Fl with my grandfather who gave me confidence and taught me how to be self-sufficient
  • Sewanee Military Academy at age 14 taught me discipline.
  • Growing up playing team sports taught me the importance of teamwork.
  • ROTC, two years active duty and five years in the reserves instilled patriotism.
  • Have made and lost money over the years in all different types of passive investments and have determined the best way to wealth is hard work.
  • Throughout my career the relationships I have developed, my family and the people I work with have been instrumental in my success. They have also given me more joy than anything I could have dreamed.

Dreams are important.
Aspirations are what help make goals reality.
